How To Keep A New Year's Resolution For Weight Loss

How To Keep A New Year's Resolution For Weight Loss

The end of the year is almost here, and it’s time to reflect on your resolutions for this year and make new ones for the next year!

Weight loss is one of the most common New Year’s resolutions that people make, and it can be a challenge to keep your resolutions for the whole year. Some even break their weight loss resolutions before January ends.

When you’re deciding on your resolutions, many people get overly confident and make resolutions they won’t be able to keep, instead of having realistic goals.

So, if you made a resolution to lose weight in the New Year, this is for you. I’m sharing practical tips on how you can keep your New Year’s resolutions for weight loss next year and in the years to come.

How To Keep A New Year’s Resolution For Weight Loss

Create A Realistic Plan

One of the key things to do if you want to reach your weight loss resolution is to create realistic plans.

Deciding to lose a ton of weight in the first month of the year isn’t realistic, nor healthy for you.

You want to create healthy New Year’s resolutions that you’ll be able to keep up with the long term, not just short term. That way, you’ll always be able to stay on track.

Your goals should help you improve your health, not just help you lose weight.

So, creating a realistic physical activity and diet plan, is the key to reaching your goals and improving your overall health in the New Year.

If you haven’t worked out in years, and eat mostly fast food, you probably can’t expect to reach your goal weight and goal look in the first month. It’s not realistic, and there’s no reason to set that goal, because even if you were able to reach it somehow, it would need to be in a completely unhealthy way.

So, make realistic goals based on your current state, and it will help you stay on track with your plan.

Get Help From Friends Or Family

If you struggle with staying on track and sticking to your diet plan and physical activity plan, you might want to ask your friends or family to help you stay on track.

They can motivate you, and push you to stick to your plan. When you’re with them, if you’re about to break your diet or your plan, they can make you stick to it, and help you that way.

Or, if any of them wants, they can make the same resolution as you, and you can do it together.

It’s always easier to stick to something when you have someone to do it with, because you can push each other and give each other the strength to pull through.

Celebrate Your Progress

When you move a bit towards your goal, and you’re making some progress, don’t forget to celebrate your progress!

It will make it easier to stay motivated if you celebrate every little win.

You can even choose some rewards for yourself for every small win, like buying something small you wanted to buy for yourself, or something similar.

Stay Active

When it comes to losing weight, many people think it’s just about the diet. And yes, you can reach your goal weight just by changing your diet.

However, you will get better and faster results, if you work out at least a little bit while on your weight loss journey.

But, to make it doable, and to make it fit your long-term healthy lifestyle goals, don’t torture yourself. Find a way to stay active that you enjoy.

If you like dancing, do that. If you enjoy playing tennis with your friends, do that. If you absolutely hate running, don’t force yourself. There are so many ways to stay active, that you can definitely find one that works for you.

Healthy Eating

Just like some people think losing weight is all about your diet, there are many out there that think it’s all about working out. So, when they want to lose weight, they don’t change their diet at all, they don’t try to eat healthily, and they think they can achieve all of their goals and weight loss resolutions just by working out.

But that’s definitely not the case. A healthy diet is an absolute key to losing weight.

You lose weight by being in a calorie deficit, which you can be by eating healthy (and working out can help you as well, but it can just help, it can’t be all you do).

So, do some research, and create a healthy diet.

Eat more fresh fruits, veggies, lean meat, clean food, drink water, and so on.

Don’t eat fast food, pasta, and pizza every day, because you not only won’t lose weight, but it will be unhealthy for your body as well.

Don’t Lose Hope And Don’t Give Up

Everyone wants to see results as soon as possible. I get that.

But when you’re losing weight the healthy way, it doesn’t happen overnight.

So, when you think you should be seeing some results by that moment, and you’re not (at least not big results as you expect), it’s easy to lose hope and give up.

But don’t.

The results will come. You just need to be patient, and continue with your diet and workout plan. The results might not be as quick as you’d like them to be (and that’s totally normal since everyone’s body is different, and some people will see results faster, and some slower), but they WILL come.
